RSV Season: Things you need to know about the respiratory system

As we move into RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) season, it's important to understand how this virus affects our respiratory system and what we can do to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

The respiratory system is divided in to ‘upper’ and ‘lower’ airways and is vital for breathing and overall health. RSV is a common respiratory virus that can cause mild, cold-like symptoms that can cause serious side effects to the respiratory system, especially for infants, children with compromised immune systems and older adults.


Here are some key points to keep in mind this RSV season.


👀Symptoms to Watch For

- Runny nose

- Decrease in appetite

- Coughing

- Sneezing

- High temperature

- Wheezing


🛑Preventative Measures

- Wash hands frequently with soap and water.

- Avoid close contact with sick individuals.

- Clean and disinfect surfaces regularly.

- Keep your hands away from your face.


🩺When to Seek Medical Attention:

- Difficulty breathing/Respiratory distress

- Persistent high fever

- Blue color in lips or face

- Signs of dehydration (less wet nappies, no tears when crying)
